Organizations worldwide are facing a significant cybersecurity talent shortage, with a vacancy rate of 28% for cybersecurity positions. This shortage is hindering their ability to effectively address escalating cyber threats, which have resulted in costs exceeding $2.2 trillion due to cyberattacks and related crimes.

Four industries—financial services, materials and industrials, consumer goods, and technology—account for nearly two-thirds (64%) of the cybersecurity workforce shortage. These sectors are particularly vulnerable as they face the highest number of cyberattacks, with seven out of ten attacks targeting them.

To address the cybersecurity skills gap, organizations should adopt future-ready workforce practices. This includes mapping skills training to current threats, offering upskilling opportunities, providing clearer career paths, and actively attracting diverse talent pools, including women. Collaborating with government agencies on national campaigns can also help position cybersecurity as a desirable career choice.
